I start my 2009/2010 Ametek Foundation Sparks Interest with Science Explorers gig in Westerly, Rhode Island this weekend. For those of you unfamiliar with our outreach program; The Ametek Foundation has been partnering with the S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation to bring science literacy to ALL children, regardless of socioeconomic status. Over the last 7 years, the S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation in cooperation with Science Explorers and the Ametek Foundation, has delivered 5 or 10 week classroom visitation programs to schools in Pittsburgh, Newark, Delaware, Oak Ridge, TN, Rochester, NY, Lancaster, PA and this year we're heading to Westerly, Rhode Island.
This program has two distinct benefits. First, it gets elementary aged children excited and familiar with science concepts and objectives. Second, it gets the elementary school teachers excited and comfortable with science.
I've never been to Westerly, Rhode Island so I'm off for a new adventure before I head to the other side of the pond!
Calling all Science Explorers Earthguards SEPTEMBER 19, 2009 Mark your calendars! International Coastal Cleanup Day is September 19th. It's an opportunity to make this world a bit less trashy. Wear your Science Explorer T shirts and head out to clean up a waterway in your area. Take pictures of you and/or your family making a difference in this world and we'll try to post them on the site.
